Dr. Esther Oliva is a member of the pathology department, codirector of the Gynecologic service at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Professor at Harvard University. Dr. Oliva was born in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain) and trained under three of the most world-renowned gynecologic pathologists, Dr. Robert E Scully, Dr. Robert H. Young and Dr. Jaime Prat. She trained in anatomic pathology at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (Barcelona) and the Massachusetts General Hospital. Her passion is to teach newer generations of pathologists from all over the world. Her research is mainly focused on neoplastic diseases involving the female genital tract (with a particular interest in mesenchymal tumors at morphologic, translational, and molecular levels) and the genitourinary tract. She is the past president of the International Society of Gynecological Pathology and past member of the standing committee for the fifth series of the World Health organization (WHO). She serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Modern Pathology, International Journal of Gynecologic Pathology, Advances in Anatomic Pathology, and Seminar in Diagnostic Pathology. She is a very active member of the USCAP. She has been a member of the abstract review board, educational committee and council. She was the co-director of the Long Course on Practical Topics in Uterine Pathology, and she has taught 5 short courses. She is the editor of the most recent AFIP fascicle on the Uterine Corpus and the co-editor of some of the most widely used textbooks in gynecologic pathology including “Gynecologic Pathology”, first series (a volume part of “Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology) and “Diagnostic Pathology Gynecologic” (Amirsys) with Dr. Nucci, and editor of the monograph “Current Concepts in Gynecologic Pathology: Mesenchymal Tumors of the Female Genital Tract” (part of Surgical Pathology Clinics).
